Foreigner Dies in Police Custody, Leading to Mass Protest by Africans in Guangzhou

According to media reports and photos posted on Weibo, China’s Twitter, a mass protest took place in Guangzhou on June 19 following the death of an African man in police custody. One netizen, @GingerYip reports, “According to a black brother at the scene, this morning a black brother got involved in a physical altercation with an electric bike driver over a RMB10 fare (less than US$2). The police took the black brother away. Then they told his family that he died and his family asked for his body. According to the police’s account, the fight happened around 1pm on [the 18th], and the man lost consciousness around 5pm, and he died despite emergency medical attention.” {{1}}[[1]] :据现场一名黑兄称，今天早上一黑兄与电动车司机因十元车资发生肢体冲突，警察到场后带走黑兄，其后通知家属该黑兄身亡，家属要求归还尸。但据警方通报打斗发生在昨天中午13时许，17时许该外籍男士昏迷。最终该男子抢救无效身亡。[[1]]

As can be seen in the photos below, some protesters held up placards asking the police to “Give Us the Dead Body.” Other protesters reportedly attacked police and threw rocks at police vehicles. Online sentiments on Chinese social media were overwhelmingly in favor of the police, with many netizens resorting to xenophobic and racist taunts against the estimated 200,000 African migrants living in Guangzhou. @马娅会长, an eye witness, complained, “I saw them blocking traffic. A strong black man blocked a bus with a tree from the sidewalk. They threw water bottles and wood blocks and did African dances at the cross section. Millions could not get home because of the traffic jam. Troublemakers with no morals or civic values, don’t treat us as people.         Alexandria ring a bell to you? Or Augustine of Hippo? Africa is one of
        the great cradles of Western civilisation, and Africans were already
        writing, building pyramids and conducting astronomy and science while
        the Indo-Europeans were still running around in the snow wearing
        bearskins and most Chinese people were living in yurts or mud huts.

        The amount of sheer ignorance and bigotry on this thread is sickening.

          I don’t choose my beliefs based upon what would be a good belief to have.
          I choose my beliefs based upon what is reality, in all of its messiness. The idea that all races have equal capability in building and maintaining civilization sounds good. However, this is not the case. 80,000 years of human evolution have, over the generations, led to different personality and intelligence profiles of the races.

          Are Black Africans not more gifted on average than Whites at improvisation, rhythm, and singing in a spontaneous way?
          Are Black Africans not more gifted on average than Whites at fast-movement and tackling based sports?

          If Black Africans were also equally intelligent on average at taking tests, then they would be SUPERHUMAN. If Blacks have advantages in very physically combative athletics, and in spontaneous music-making, AND are equal in test-taking ability, then they would be SUPERIOR to Whites. Blacks as Uebermenschen, this is unsavoury.

          Instead, each race has different clustering of averages, and different gifts and dangers. It is important to note that any given individual of a race can fall far outside of the average ability for the race. Look up the phenomenon called “The Bell Curve”. Thus, racism is not justified.

          However, because the races naturally cluster at different averages for achievement in different areas, EQUALIZING RACISM is not justified. Each race has it’s advantages and disadvantages, on average. What has happened, is that there is a lot of money to be made by trying to solve a problem that is magnified beyond proportion. Black underachievement in schools will always be there for Blacks as a group, but certainly not for all individuals. There will be a smaller, but never closed achievement gap. Many people and groups stand to gain power and urgency by IGNORANCE of the natural differences of races.

          The corollary to this, is that each race “handles” differently. Think of a racecar. When you race a racecar around a track, each different car will handle differently. Some cars are better at turning, some have better speed, some grip the road firmer. To ignore the differences in handling of the cars would be disastrous for the race.

          Everybody says there is this race problem. This stems from ignoring the diversity of races. Each race needs to drive the race a little bit differently, and who says we all have to race? Can not each race be respected for what is thrives in, and encouraged to compensate against the peculiar difficulty of each?

          Everybody says there is this race problem, but the problem is we don’t understand the cars.

        Sadly if the Chinese government allows this to happen and does not deport all involved it will only get worse. America has bent over backwards to try to please the black community but nothing has worked, each time something happens that upsets them it is not handled civilized but with riots,robbing,looting and burning buidings. It is like they feel it is ok to take what they want and feel entitled to do so. Look at the many examples in America and see how the bad element of the black population drowns out the good law abiding black citizens who are afraid to speak out and condemn the bad actions  in most cases.

    Africans have average IQs of 70.  An individual with an IQ of 70 is borderline retarded.  East Asians have IQs of approximately 106.  Africans are prone to violence and criminality at much higher rates than either whites and even higher than East Asians.  Africans are simply incapable of civilization.  Africans have never created an advanced civilization.  Further in those African countries that formerly were governed by whites the advanced society once in place is degrading.  Standards of living are declining.  GPD for those countries are declining to disastrous levels.  Life expectancy is declining.  And crime and corruption is increasing.  These riots should serve as a warning to China.  Do not allow any substantial number of Africans into China.  Once past a tipping point they will destroy your society.

    Mali, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia are barely relevant compared to civilizations anywhere else. Name one achievement to come out of those places. This is just false equivalency perpetuated by afrocentrists. Egyptians were not black. Even in their “purity” it was not long before they were mixed with Persian and Greek conquerers. Everyone here knows the subject is sub-saharan blacks, please spare us the apologism.

    And the primary assertion is still correct. China is the world’s oldest and single continuous civilization. Egypt is nothing now, and southern Africa has never amounted to much.

    Oh, if only, if only there was a tool someone could use to find information online about ancient civilisations…

    The Timbuktu Manuscripts were (and are still, according to UNESCO) a treasure trove of the Malian intellectual heritage, and should count for a massive array of achievements to come out of the Malian civilisation in the 12th and 13th centuries; easily paralleling or outstripping the Chinese accomplishments of the same era. The Axumite Empire was a great regional power and cultural centre in its day, as a meeting-point of all three great Abrahamic religions. The ruins of Great Zimbabwe are a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, and still stand as a testament to the masonic genius of the inhabitants who built it. There’s no false equivalency to be found here, and in fact there has been more of a concerted colonial effort to downplay and denigrate these sorts of achievements by non-whites.

    As for the Egyptians, the ancient Egyptians (having come originally from the south Nile basin), were a civilisation which was more black than anything else, speaking an Afro-Asiatic language. The first contact with anyone who might be thought of as ‘white’ would be the Hittites, and they came well after Egypt’s golden age.

    And, actually, the primary assertion had nothing to do with the continuity of China. To say that Africans are ‘not adjusted’ to civilisation is racist, and it is simply factually wrong. Whether or not China is ‘continuous’ has nothing to do with anything.

    Oh look, deluded white kid apologizing for lesser societies. So shocking. Name one thing in the Timbuktu manuscripts that weren’t already known and copied from Arabic literature. One. Outstripping the Song dynasty? The richest nation on the planet at the time? Go say this to a historian. ANY historian. Mali and Axum were at most kingdoms, only “empires” when glorified by placing them solely in the African context. Greater Zimbabwe is a ruin, its UNESCO heritage no more impressive than the dozens that can be found in many other countries.

    List some accomplishments from these civilizations, and let’s stack them up against any other part of the world.

    Afrocentrist claims aside, both Egyptians themselves and outside observers have noted some difference between their population and Africans further to the south. To say that their culture is influenced by the south is not to say their accomplishments were equal.

    I have no intention of denigrating achievements from non-whites. I’m not white. But I have no intention of giving credit where it isn’t due.

    So there is plenty of false equivalency to be found here. And it has your name written over it.

    The point in question was whether Africans (as a geographical expression, not as a ‘race’, since there is no such thing as a single ‘African race’ – the population of Africa being much more genetically heterogeneous than that of, say, Europe) are adapted to civilisation. As a matter of empirical proof, they have been historically, ergo they are. Full stop, end of story. Anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or racist. Keeping up this pointless chauvinist dick-waving only makes you appear the more pathetic.
